Welcome to Somex >> Innovations
Somex’s R+D department have recently finished the development of the MAX40B, a new
machining unit. This new development was helped by the expertise gained from BSI, a
company purchased by SOMEX at the end of 2007. The objective was to design a new
machining spindle capable of drilling in steel at a diameter of 40mm at 600 N/mm², thus
exceeding the capacity of the BEX35, our current reference product which the MAX40B will
replace.
Compact and powerful, it is ideally sized to be mounted on drilling centres, either on 1 axe or
3 axe translational modules, to create specialised machining centres. Two attachments are
supplied as standard, ISO 40 and HSK63 and it has a maximum torque of 400Nm. The
suitability of other attachments can of course be confirmed by our technical department.
Depending on the version, centre fed cooling and automatic tool changing (ISO and HSK)
are available as options. The spindle is driven by an asynchronous motor rated at up to 7.5
kW and speeds range from 50 to 15,000 rpm. The unit is fitted with pressure resistant
labyrinth seals front and rear.
As with the majority of SOMEX products, installation and commissioning is simple and an
early return on investment is assured.

New machining unit Quill-type MAX28CN
SOMEX, leader in the manufacture of machining units, adds to its range of drilling units, a flange mounting version, specially dedicated to the market of machines transfert with rotating drum.
The goal is to make available to our customers a unit which can fit into a modular frame and is based on the drilling unit with quill BEM28 widely proven.
With a capacity of 120 Nm, this MAX28CN est available in 2 strokes : 170 mm & 300 mm, with drive by ball screw Ø 40 mm and digital servomotor.
It has like the GEM20 a coolant through the spindle, which is a standard ISO40. The spindle rotation is ensured by an asynchronous motor of 5.5 kW / 1000 rpm.
As the majority of products offered by Somex, the starting is simple and it follows a very rapid return on investment.
Industrial applications of such a machining unit are many, whether in the automotive, aviation, rail and construction.

SOMEX, a leading supplier for machining units, is proud to announce the addition of its new MAX100B to help bridge the gap between existing units, the MAX45B and the MAX200B.
Now, we can deliver compact and rigid machining units to the automotive industry which are capable to produce larger hole sizes. Most of its design features are based on a well proven model, the BEX35.
With a torque limit up to 1000Nm and electric motor capacity up to 15kW, the MAX100B can perform drilling operations up to Ø 55mm based on mild steel material with 600 N/mm2 tensile strength.
Advantages include : Small envelope to capacity ratio, 90mm ID spindle bearing size and spindle executions in ISO 40, ISO 50 and HSK 100 design.
Optional features include : Coolant through the spindle, air purge and depending on the application, 3 types of spindle bearings which can allow spindle speeds up 10’000rpm.
The MAX100B is designed to fit SOMEX slide model UA5 or the CNC 3-axis positioning module TRIAX4. It is ideally suited for heavy duty gantry type applications for sheet metal or plate machining operations or simply as a component for tube end machining. Numerous applications can be realized in special purpose machine designs.

SOMEX, world leader in the manufacture of machining units, has added a new product to its range of tapping units.
The new version MAX28TE has a capacity which sits between the existing GEM20 and MAX48T Units. The objective was to introduce a tapping unit for larger diameters and base it on the famous and reliable BEM28.
With a capability of 120 Nm of torque and 200mm stroke, the MAX28TE can tap up to M 24 x 3mm or M 48 x 2mm in 600 N/mm2 steel, standard thread pitch range is 0,5 to 3 mm with other pitches available on request.
The unit can be fitted with motors up to 5,5 kW with geared motors for larger diameters. As with the GEM20, the unit is available with through tool coolant and comes pre-equipped for automatic lubrication.
This unit is recommended for use on transfer lines and is ideal for integration into special purpose machines. Available now for sale the MAX28TE comes with a 1 year warranty for the harshest automotive environment.
SOMEX, leader in the machining units industry, has redesigned its best selling slide unit, the UA3, with the following design criteria : more compact, longer strokes, improved protections, 0.04mm/m surface flatness tolerance and 0.025mm/m over 500mm parallelism.
To guarantee stiffness and dampening effect against vibrations as well as machining accuracy, its cast iron base was lowered by 15 mm and the spacing of the rails increased.
Feed force and tool axis are closer together to reduce up to 32% the pitching moment and to improve its speed and acceleration.
The chips evacuation was particularly optimized : more clearances and a new rails generation with protective metal covers. Maintenance is easier thanks to the reduction of the greasing points.
The UA40 slide assembly can be equipped with the BEX15, BEX35 and even the MAX45B machining units, positioned inline with operating axis or 90º cross wise. They are suitable to be placed in machining stations at any angular position.
The new UA40 is available with any feed type : pneumatic, hydro-pneumatic, hydraulic and CNC with ball screw. Thanks to an easier integration to your production process, UA40 slides and MAX spindles, fulfill more than ever the requirements of the mechanical engineering industry.
To complete its Triax range, SOMEX launches a new slide module in 3 axis, TRIAX2, which extends the range of the 3 axes in the small dimension. This module can be fixed vertically or horizontally and is designed in priority to use with the machining spindle BEX15.
TRIAX2 meets to the high precision machining and fits for a wide range of applications for the equipment of transfer machines used in the manufacture of the automotive, aeronautic, micro mechanics, locksmith's, taps, PVC or aluminium joinery, etc...
The high precision of the movements comes from the framework with certain components made in stabilized cast iron , high precision of the motion elements, as ballscrews from class IT5 and recirculating linear ball bearing guides preloaded, offer excellent performance for high production use.
Numerical advance is insured by Indramat servo motor but also be combined with an optional brand name. For the retrofit market, TRIAX2 in special version with a slimer design (weak height notably) could be the best solution of the retrofit of the transfer machines with rotating tables thanks to its gain of room.
